Adabala Vardhan wins title

HYDERABAD: Adabala Vardhan of St. Patrick's High School emerged champion in the juniors' category of the 59th Brilliant Trophy chess tournament here on Sunday.

Vardhan scored six out of six rounds to clinch the title while T. Manideep and Arjun were second and third respectively with five points each.

J.K. Raju of Ongole won the open category title with 5.5 points from six rounds, while Prateek Srivastava and Tulasi Ram Kumar were second and third respectively.

Final placings: 1. J.K. Raju, 2. Prateek Srivastav, 3. M. Tulasi Ram Kumar, 4. Ch. Sahajasri, 5. S.V.C. Chakravarthy, 6. Chiman Prakash Reddy, 7. A.K. Thomas, 8. M.Y. Raju, 9. M. Chakravarthy Reddy and 10. B. Rajasekhar.

Age-group winners: Boys: Under-14: T. Manideep. Under-12: D. Chetan. Under-10: K. Manas. Under-8: Arjun.

Badeti for Asian meet

Badeti Venkatramaiah of Andhra Pradesh has been nominated as official referee for the Senior Asian weightlifting championship to be held in Pongling (China) from April 12 to 17.

M. Santoshi of Vizianagaram, gold medallist in the Junior Commonwealth championship and also the sub-junior Commonwealth championship, is the lone entry from the State for the Asian Championship. — Special Correspondent
