COIMBATORE: Nearly 85 per cent of the voters have been given booth slips, according to District Collector and District Election Officer P. Umanath. Speaking to reporters at the Collectorate on Sunday, he said the remaining voters would be covered in the next couple of days and that he was monitoring the progress. He earlier inaugurated a campaign to create awareness among voters. Voters, it appeared, were confused on the document to be furnished while voting. They could furnish either the electors photo identity card (EPIC) or the booth slips given to them. It was not necessary that they had to present the two to the presiding officer, he clarified. Dr. Umanath said this was the first election after 100 per cent EPIC had been achieved. The voters' list was updated as the names of the dead had been removed during the recent exercise. Applications The district administration received 56,000 such applications. After scrutiny, 49,000 were found eligible and they were included in the list.
