Staff Reporter

Cash and two mobile phones too were confiscated

The arrested man is from Lagos City in Nigeria

Bangalore: The Women and Narcotics Squad of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a foreign national here on Saturday and confiscated 135 grams of cocaine, Rs. 2,300 in cash and two mobile phones from him.

The police gave the name of the suspected drug peddler as Martin En Duke Chuk (31), a native of Iban Street of Lagos City in Nigeria.

He was staying in a rented house near Banasawadi Main Road in Subbayyana Palya here.

“The accused is a habitual drug peddler and was arrested in 2010 with two others. He had been supplying cocaine to his clients, particularly to parties organised at private places, bars and night clubs in the city,” R. Lakshman, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Women and Narcotics Squad, CCB), told The Hindu.

He came to Bangalore in 2008 on a business visa and made friends with a few African nationals and started selling cocaine here, he said. He was arrested and released on bail in January 2011 but he continued his illegal activities, he said. The police received a tip-off about the accused and arrested him on Ayyappa Swamy Temple Road in Subbayyana Palya when he was trying to sell the banned substance, he said.

During questioning, the accused reportedly disclosed that he had bought the contraband from his accomplices who are selling drugs in Chennai and New Delhi.

Mr. Lakshman said that Martin En Duke Chuk's passport and visa had expired.

Snatched

Two motorbike-borne men snatched a gold chain from a housewife in Akkipet in the Cottonpet police station limits here on Sunday.
