HYDERABAD: Protesting the “irrational” fee hike by the school management, the Parents Teachers Association of the International Educational Academy's International School at Shaikpet, has announced the unanimous decision by parents not to pay the fee till the issue is resolved. The association is protesting the 10 per cent tuition fee hike for the academic year 2011-12, as well as the two slabs of fee being enforced by the management for new and old students respectively. In this connection, the association conducted a meeting on Sunday, and came out with the decision not to pay the fee. Secretary of the association Md. Kazim Hussain informed that the quarterly term fee for Class X has experienced a hike of Rs.5,800 during the past three years, totalling up to Rs.24,000 per year for 2011-12. Further, the management has proposed a tuition fee hike of 20 per cent per annum beginning from the academic year 2012-13, he said. “In 2006-07, the quarterly term fee was only Rs.1,450 for my son, which, after cumulative hikes, has risen to Rs. 9,300 for the year 2011-12. Even after much persuasion by the PTA, the management has remained adamant in its 10 per cent fee hike for the coming academic year,” Mr. Hussain said. He also protested the two different slabs of fee being proposed for old and new students respectively. While new students - even of the Kindergarten - who joined after 2009 will have to pay a fee of Rs.45,000 per year with an assurance of no further hike till 2013, old students will have to bear hikes of 15 to 20 per cent every year, as informed by the Chairman of the school Kakarla Subbarao through a letter to the association last year. The chairman attributed the hike to annual increase in costs and the provision of 25 per cent mandatory free seats under the RTE Act. However, Mr. Kazim alleged no free seats have been provided . He demanded that the new slab be brought down .
