Two dyeing units violate court orders
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) found two dyeing units indulging in illegal operations during checks for two days.
The checks ended on Tuesday morning.
TNPCB District Environmental Engineer R. Kannan told The Hindu that the units located at Angeripalayam and Arulpuram were found to be operating with alternate power sources despite the closure order from Madras High Court.
Both the units were members of the dyers association, he said.
Criminal prosecution
TNPCB sources said criminal prosecution would be initiated against the two units.
Following the closure order issued by the court on January 28, power supply to the entire 754 dyeing units in the cluster was disconnected according to the instructions of TNPCB.
However, effluents still continued to flow into River Noyyal in large quantities.
Mr. Kannan said so far 10 units had been found operating with alternate power sources and not following the court orders.
