Polling peaceful in Yanam

KAKINADA: The 13th Assembly elections went off peacefully in Yanam constituency that comes under the Union Territory of Pondicherry on Wednesday. Of the 30,934 voters, 29,472 exercised their franchise at 33 polling stations, taking the poll percentage to a record 95.27.

Malladi Krishna Rao of the Congress was in the fray for the fourth consecutive time, for whom Manchala Satyasai Kumar of the Anna DMK and Kamisetti Srirama Murthy Naidu of the Bharatiya Janata Party were giving tough competition this time. Mr. Krishna Rao's wife Udaya Lakshmi was among the seven candidates who were contesting for the seat as independents.

Returning Officer A. Vincent Royar identified 16 polling stations as sensitive and deputed additional forces. However, no untoward incident was reported during the polling that was held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
