Star-struck:Playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam being greeted on his arrival at NSP guest house in Ongole on Wednesday. ONGOLE: Telugu language will thrive forever, thanks to the speakers of the sweet language at the grassroots level, noted playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam has said. Talking to reporters, the versatile singer, who was here to receive the first Ghantasala national award on Wednesday, said there was no question of the language becoming endangered. Parents had a responsibility to inculcate in their children love for their mother tongue, he said. The multilingual singer, who has a fan following in different parts of the world, wanted up-and-coming singers to grab the opportunities that came their way and utilise them. Tributes paid Paying tributes to his guru M.S. Kodandapani, who enabled him to make a mark in the Telugu film industry when stalwarts like Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao were ruling the roost, he said the budding singers needed good teachers to guide them. Mr. Balasubrahmanyam said he never thought in the beginning that he would become a singer. “In fact, I wanted to become an engineer. I was destined to become a singer and I made the best of the opportunities. This is enough reason to believe in god.” Replying to a question, he said Tollywood needed producers with commitment to check deteriorating standards in lyrics. He blessed a budding singer Pallavi on the occasion and signed his autograph.
