Two AP girls in Indian junior boxing team

VISAKHAPATNAM: Winning a medal at the World championship is an honour to the country and the Indian team participating in the World junior women boxing championship in Turkey from April 21 should give their best and bring laurels, said Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu at a function organised to mark the closure of the third and final National camp for the boxers here on Wednesday. An eight-member team was selected for the World championship and two girls from Andhra Pradesh S. Marathamma Pendurthy and Nikhat Zareen from Nizamabad are in the squad. Coach of the team I. Venkateswara Rao is from the city. MD of CMR group M.V. Ramana said sports would ensure health and discipline and the Port stadium was a great asset to the city. Kit bags and T shirts sponsored by the CMR group were handed over to the boxers by Mr. Vishnu. Former Olympian and Sports Officer of Visakhapatnam Port Trust M.V. Manikyalu and general secretary of AP Amateur Boxing Association G.V. Raviraju wanted the girls to give their 100 per cent at the meet and bring medals. Mr. Raviraju wanted Government to support sportspersons by providing them employment.

Administrator of SAI's Sports Training Centre at the Port stadium T. Kishor Kumar said the three camps were conducted in a perfect manner and without any problem or a hitch. He thanked the port and GVMC authorities for their support.

Assistant coach Abhishek Malviya welcomed. GVMC Sports Director Y. Srinivasa Rao and vice-president of District Amateur Boxing Association DRK Reddy were also present.
