Rail accidents down by 27% in Chennai division

CHENNAI: The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has reduced accidents by 27 per cent, Divisional Railway Manager S. Anantharaman said on Monday.
Participating in the 56 {+t} {+h} Railway Week celebrations, Mr. Anantharaman said the division has also achieved an all time high in efficiency indices such as engine kilometres per engine day on line while transporting an estimated 13 lakh passengers and 16.1 million tonnes of freight every day. The division has improved punctuality by 10 percentage points to aggregate 91 per cent during the fiscal that ended.
