Protest against MNREGA irregularities

Hassan: A. T. Ramaswamy, former MLA, led a protest demanding action against those involved in irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) in Hassan on Wednesday.
The former MLA took out a bike rally from Arakalgudu to Hassan along with his supporters. Later the protesters staged a dharna in front of the zilla panchayat office.
Mr. Ramaswamy alleged that the panachayat was safeguarding the officers allegedly involved in the misuse of funds.
The State Government had directed ZP chief executive officer S.T. Anjan Kumar to file a criminal case against the culprits and recover the money. But the officer had not done anything so far.
Mr. Ramaswamy alleged that as the CEO was also involved in corrupt deals, he was safeguarding his colleagues.
The protesters also requested Governor H.R. Bhardwaj to direct the Government to take appropriate action in this regard. Mr. Ramaswamy said he would go on a fast-unto-death if the Government action on the issue was delayed.
