Rs. 22.8 crore for SC, ST welfare in Bijapur district

Special occasion:A procession was taken out in Bijapur on Thursday as part of B.R. Ambedkar's 120th birth anniversary celebrations.

BIJAPUR: Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries and in charge of Bijapur district Murugesh Nirani has said that the Government has released Rs. 22.8 crore for the welfare of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes people in the district.

Speaking at 120th birth anniversary celebrations of B.R. Ambedkar organised by the district administration at Kandagal Hanumantrai Rangamandira here on Thursday, he said steps had also been taken to construct community halls for Banjara community in all the eight Assembly constituencies in the district. The Government had released Rs. 25 lakh for each constituency for the purpose.

Rs. 2 cr. for bhavan

The Government had released Rs. 2 crore for the construction of Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan in Bijapur city and the foundation stone for the same would be laid within a week.

Apart from these, the Government had launched several schemes for the benefit of backward communities, Mr. Nirani added.

“Officials should make sincere efforts to reach the benefits of the government schemes to the needy to so as to bring into the mainstream of society. They should be provided education, health facilities and social security.”

Ramesh Jigjinagi, MP, said that people of every community should spread the message of brotherhood by forgetting internal differences. Earlier, Ambedkar's portrait was taken out in a procession from Buddha Vihar to the rangamandira.

City MLA Appasaheb Pattanshetty presided over the programme. Bijapur Zilla Panchayat president Shankrubai Chalawadi, zilla panchayat vice-president Shrishailgouda Biradar, Bijapur Development Authority chairman Bhimashankar Hadanur, Deputy Commissioner S.S. Pattanshetty, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer A.N. Patil, Superintendent of Police D.C. Rajappa and Additional Superintendent of Police F.A. Trasgar were present.
