Chitradurga: The Chitradurga police have launched a search for a suspected killer who is believed to have murdered six persons in less than a month. Of the six murders, three were reported in Chitradurga district and three in Tumkur district. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Superintendent of Police M.N. Nagaraj said that considering the pattern of crime, the police suspected that the perpetrator could be a psychopath. In the six incidents, the accused had not taken away any jewellery, money or other valuables. The victims had been assaulted brutally before they were killed, he said. Giving details of the victims, Mr. Nagaraj said that on April 11, Nagamma (55) of Rampur village in Molakalmur taluk was murdered. Two days later, on April 13, another murder was reported in Imangala of Hiriyur taluk where Basamma (35) was killed. However, the first victim was Rangaswamy (36) of Hiriyur town who was killed on April 2. Mr. Nagaraj said that in the case of Rangaswamy, the accused had allegedly raped the victim's wife. The three murders reported from Tumkur district on April were of a similar type. In these murders also, the accused had not taken away any money or valuables, he said. Mr. Nagaraj said that the police had constituted two teams comprising a sub-inspector, two assistant-sub-inspectors, one head constable and four constables each. “While one team will operate in Challakere taluk, the other will be posted in Chitradurga taluk. Both the teams will be under my direct supervision,” he said.
