Three gangsters booked under MCOCA

All the accused arrested on the same day with a revolver, five live rounds

Mumbai: The three members of notorious Pandav Putra gang were on Thursday booked under stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), police said.

According to the police, the MCOCA can be applied if at least two members of the organised crime gang have at least two charge sheets registered against them.

On February 4, the three accused Laxman Karan, Hasan Shaikh and Javed Shaikh tried to extort Rs.20,000 from the owner of Rohan Bar & Restaurant in Girgaon. However, crowd gathered on the spot after the victim had raised an alarm.

One of the members of the gang, Karan, who has eight cases registered against him, had whipped out a revolver to disperse the mob which came to rescue the hotelier, police said.

All the accused, including Hasan Shaikh and Javed Shaikh who have four cases and two cases registered against them respectively, were arrested on the same day along with a revolver and five live rounds, they said.

Going by the cases registered against the gangsters in various police stations, the stringent MCOCA was slapped on them which would make it difficult for them to get bail, said a senior police official.

The accused are currently lodged in Arthur Road jail. - PTI
