A view of the www.aptitudecoach.com site of Bharathiar University that has been designed by the Department of Extension, Career Guidance and Students' Welfare. COIMBATORE: These websites have proved that e-learning is just not electronic learning but ‘enhanced learning at the individual level and enabled learning at the group level'. The 1.5 lakh hits on www.careervarsity.com and 30,000 hits on www.aptitudecoach.com. have shown that students have embraced the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) based learning with gusto. Hosted by the Department of Extension, Career Guidance and Students' Welfare of Bharathiar University, both the sites primarily serve to enhance the aptitude level of the students at the undergraduate level and make them prepared for entry-level jobs, according to the department's director M. Jayakumar. The ‘careervarsity' site has five links. Here, students can register their profile, employees can register their manpower requirements, and there is a link that has hosts of questions based on competitive examination model, which students and even professionals aspiring for better jobs can work on. Placement events are uploaded from time to time. The site that was hosted in 2008 has so far a database of 45,000 people. It constitutes not only students from affiliated colleges of the university, but users from varied backgrounds and also places from as far as the North-East. The ‘aptitudecoach' site that was hosted in 2009 is totally focussed on aptitude enhancement. There are nearly 300 questions in seven domain areas with the mathematical ability domain constituting the maximum of 1,000 questions. Most of the problems have answers worked out in many methods. It does not involve teaching and learning alone but also testing. According to Mr. Jayakumar, students, both individually as well as in groups use the sites to work on the domain areas. Virtual education that promotes anytime, anywhere, any level, any content and any language learning using virtual tools, is preferred by students. Students, who use the website, say that it is not only user-friendly but also gives them an idea as to the kind of preparation that companies expect from them when they attend the tests for selection to entry level jobs. The possible steps to get the answers for the problems in the seven domain areas are constantly updated on receiving feedback from students who come up with them.
