Levelling charges: Former Minister P. Rajavelu at a press conference in Puducherry on Saturday. PUDUCHERRY: Former Minister P. Rajavelu on Saturday demanded a judicial inquiry into post-poll violence at Embalam constituency. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Rajavelu said the post-poll violence in the constituency, where he was pitted against Social Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, had caused huge damage to property. Besides loss to the tune of more than Rs. 2 crore, he said several persons sustained injuries. Criticising Mr. Kandasamy for orchestrating the violence “out of fear of defeat,” the former Minister said only a judicial inquiry into the incident could find out the truth and bring the culprits to book. He also criticised a section of police officers for “siding with the Social Welfare Minister during the clash.” Mr. Rajavelu said people in the area are living out of fear as his supporters being targeted constantly. He appealed to the police to give adequate protection to the general public.
