Transportation cost to be borne by school education department

TIRUCHI: The school education department in Tiruchi district will start receiving books from the Tamil Nadu Textbook Society during the first week of May.

By the end of second week, the books will be distributed to all the schools.

Completion report

By then, the completion report will be sent to the Directorate of School Education, the Chief Educational Officer T.Mohana Kumar said

The books will be kept at 14 nodal centres from where the schools have to collect them. The cost of transporting books from the nodal centres to the individual schools will be borne by the department, the CEO said.

Parents happy

This decision of the authorities implemented since last year has earned appreciation from the parents.

Before that the books were distributed by the postal department.

Prior to that the transport cost had to be met by the school head concerned, and there were several instances of schools collecting money to meet the expenses from the students for receiving the books provided by the government free-of-cost.

Since all text books are under the pattern of equitable system of school education, the education department has received indents from matriculation and Anglo-indian schools as well.

However, it is not yet known whether the text books will be provided free of cost to students of self-financing schools. Hitherto, the costs for the Tamil books alone were not charged for students of self-financing schools.

Private schools

Based on the syllabus, the private schools could also exercise the option of buying books from private publishers, Mr.Mohana Kumar said.

Schools were expected to distribute the text books to the students during the third week of May. Students will be provided with all the text books before the commencement of the next academic year.

Meanwhile, the department has planned to publish the results of the Plus One district-level examination on May 2. Towards the end of this month, the results will be verified and approved at nine nodal points, Mr.Mohana Kumar said.
