MALAPPURAM: The annual festival of the Navamukunda temple at Tirunavaya, which began on Thursday, has been pulling in large crowds from different parts of the district. The 10-day festival of the temple, situated on the banks of River Bharatapuzha, will conclude on April 23 with an Arattu of Lord Vishnu or Navamukunda. Navamukunda has the company of deities Lakshmi and Ganapati at Tirunavaya. The centuries-old Navamukunda temple is managed by a trust headed by Zamorin P.K.S. Raja of Kozhikode. The temple is popular the world over for immersion of cremains in River Bharatapuzha and offering of Pithrubali or a ritual seeking redemption for ancestors.
