Four-laning of NH 13 on the anvil

Bijapur: To facilitate a smooth drive from Solapur to Hospet, the NH 13 will be widened to four lanes at a cost of Rs. 1,500 crore, Ramesh Jigajinagi, MP, has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Jigajinagi said that NH 13 has been divided into three stretches – Solapur-Bijapur, Bijapur-Hunagund and Hunagund-Hospet. Land for conversion of the road into four lanes has been acquired and the work would be completed in two years. Based on the proposal submitted by the State Government, the Union Government has released Rs. 2.9 crore for infrastructure development at Bijapur Sainik School. A compound wall would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore, all roads on the school premises would be asphalted at a cost of Rs. 1 crore and the remaining funds would be utilised for the construction of sainik school staff quarters.

“The authorities concerned have already received funds from the Government and the work has also begun on the sainik school premises a month ago”, he added.

A proposal has been sent to the Government to rename Karnataka State Women's University after saint singer Akka Mahadevi.. Mr. Ramesh Jigajinagi said steps would be taken to restart Bhimashankar Sugar Factory at Margur village of Bijapur district.
