Passengers beat up bus crew

Special Correspondent

CHICKBALLAPUR: Passengers of a private luxury bus, bound for Bangalore from Hyderabad, were allegedly beaten up by the bus crew on the outskirts of Chickballapur on Saturday morning.

The police said around 45 passengers were travelling by the bus belonging to Sahara Travels. The passengers were agitated as the bus, which was scheduled to reach Bangalore at 8 a.m., was three hours behind schedule.

On nearing Chickballapur, the bus developed a snag and the vehicle was stopped near Agalagurki, off National Highway-7. The travel agency assured the passengers that another bus would arrive from Bangalore and pick them. When there was no sign of the second bus arriving, the restless passengers picked up a quarrel with the bus driver and other staff.

It is said that the driver was manhandled by some passengers. After the second bus arrived around 10.30 a.m., the crew of the two buses assaulted the passengers. The police have registered a case of assault against the two drivers, Chickballapur Circle Police Inspector S. Shiva Kumar told The Hindu.
