DAMASCUS: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Saturday that a state of emergency will be lifted by next week in a speech to the new Cabinet he named last week. Main demand Abolishing the emergency law is one of the main demands of protesters. The new Cabinet held the first meeting after swearing the constitutional oath to Mr. Assad who presided over the meeting and made speech aired by Syrian state-run TV. — Xinhua
