Haryana doctors to be sponsored for specialisation

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Faced with a shortage of specialist doctors, the Haryana Government has decided to sponsor its serving doctors for higher studies up to post-graduation level.

State Health Minister Rao Narender Singh said on Saturday that the doctors would be sponsored for higher studies with full pay only in the specialties where there was a shortage of specialists.

He disclosed that their study period would also be treated as service period for all intent and purposes.

“There is a dire need for specialists in the streams of General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedic Surgery, Anaesthesia, Pathology, Radiology, Psychiatry, Eye Surgery, Forensic Medicine, ENT Surgery, Dental, Social and Preventive Medicine, Chest and TB and Pharmacology,” he disclosed.

However, if any doctor after five or three years of service wishes to do post-graduation course in any other specialty, he would have to seek extraordinary leave without pay. But his service would be protected so far as increments, seniority and pension were concerned. “Such doctors would be entitled to stipend if paid by the institution concerned,” he added.
