One person in each of the booths opted for 49(O) rejecting the candidates in the fray and exercising his option not to vote for anyone. It may be recalled that voters of these two booths boycotted the polls on April 13 as voters' lists got changed. Because of the change, voters of Valayavattam booth were assigned to vote in Paruthikudi booth and voters of Paruthikudi booth were assigned to vote in Valayavattam booth. As the distance between two booths was five kms, people decided to boycott unless they were allotted to vote in their respective booths. District Collector M.S.Shanmugham offered to operate free buses to the booths but people refused to vote. When the matter was referred to Election Commission, it issued orders to conduct repoll on April 16 changing the booths. Accordingly the booths were changed and people voted on Saturday in their respective booths. Sakthivel, Returning Officer and District Taluk Supply Officer and Ashok Kumar, Revenue Divisional Officer of Kumbakonam monitored the repoll on Saturday. The entire activity in the two booths was videographed.
