Demand for CBI probe
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association has demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder of Chief Medical Officer (Family Welfare), Lucknow, Dr. B. P. Singh, who was shot dead by extortionists while on his morning walk earlier this month. Expressing anguish over such ghastly acts against honest medical professionals working in Uttar Pradesh, IMA president Dr. Vinay Aggarwal strongly criticised inefficient handling of such cases of extortion against medical professionals in U.P.
“We have written to the U.P. Chief Minister demanding immediate action. It has become absolutely impossible for honest medical professionals to work in U.P. without fear,'' added Dr. Aggarwal.
IMA member Dr. Narender Saini noted that the heinous crime committed against sincere medical professionals cannot be condoned by simple removal of ministers and dismissal of senior officials. “We have to understand the root cause of the act and take proper steps to ensure that such acts are not repeated in future. A CBI inquiry should be instituted and the guilty punished according to law,'' added Dr. Saini.
