Korungotta isle registers highest poll percentage

80 booths in Ernakulam constituency registers more than 70% turnout

Of 1,35,516-strong electorate, 97,087 cast vote


KOCHI: Though separated from the city by water on all sides, the residents of Korungotta showed the way for the electorate in Ernakulam constituency by notching up the highest polling percentage in the Assembly election.

Of the 255 voters in Korungotta, 217 turned up at the booth set up at the Anganwadi building, taking the voting percentage to 85.1 — this was 13.46 per cent higher than the final voting tally of 71.64 per cent for the entire constituency.

Meanwhile, the polling percentage in 56 booths in the heart of the city was found to be less than the average polling percentage for the entire constituency.

While 80 out of the 123 booths in the constituency polled in excess of 70 per cent votes, in the remaining 43 booths it was under 70 per cent. Out of the total electorate of 1,35,516 in the constituency, 97,087 exercised their franchise.

Booth number 108 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Girinagar, polled 10.73 per cent higher than the overall voting percentage in the constituency when 944 out of the 1,146 voters cast their votes.

Low turnout

The lowest voter turnout was registered at booth number 1 at Kendriya Vidyalaya. Only 687 out of the 1,285 voters voted here. The polling percentage of 53.46 was 18.18 per cent less than the overall voting percentage.

Booth number 76 at SRV UP School registered the second lowest voting percentage. Only 853 out of the 1,526 turned up to vote there and the polling percentage was 55.9 — 15.74 per cent less than the overall voting percentage in the constituency. Booth number 77 in the same school recorded 10.83 per cent less than the overall voters' turnout, as only 509 out of the 837 voters cast their votes.

At booth number 85 at the St. George School, Pallimukku, only 57.51 per cent of the total electorate voted — 14.13 per cent less than the overall voting percentage. Out of the 732 voters here, only 421 voted.

The voting per cent was 14.05 per cent lower than the overall voting per cent in booth number 81 at the Government Girl's High School.

In 44 out of the 123 polling booths in the constituency, polling between 70 and 75 per cent was recorded. In 35 booths, it was in excess of 75 per cent. In 37 booths, polling was less than 70 per cent.

ID proof

Of the 97,087 who cast their votes, 69,168 did so using the voter's identity card issued by the Election Commission. The remaining used the slips issued by the Commission.
