Village servants threaten to go on stir

Government urged to implement wage revision Village servants seek Class IV employees status
HYDERABAD: The A. P. Village Servants Association has threatened to go on strike anytime after May 10 if the government failed to keep its assurances relating to wage revision.
In a strike notice served on the Revenue Department on Saturday, the association demanded a hike in the wages to Rs. 5,000 and dearness allowance from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100. Village servants, who were serving as a bridge between the government and people at grassroots level, should be recognised as Class IV employees and the Government should extend medical invalidation scheme to them.
Steps should be initiated to fill vacant posts while the gratuity paid to village servants should be calculated on the basis of their salary and the DA. The association lamented that though the Revenue department had assured to enhance their salaries from April 2009, no step had been initiated in that direction so far. Several representations submitted to the Government went in vain compelling the 50,000 strong village servants to take to agitational path, the Association said.
