Russia takes 2-0 lead

MOSCOW: Two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova handed Russia a comfortable 2-0 lead in the Fed Cup semifinal showdown with Italy by defeating Roberta Vinci 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-1 here on Saturday.

The results:

World Group I semifinals: At Moscow: Russia 2 vs Italy 0 [Vera Zvonareva bt Sara Errani 6-0, 6-2; Svetlana Kuznetsova bt Roberta Vinci 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-1].

At Charleroi (Belgium): Belgium 1 vs Czech Republic 1 [Kirsten Flipkens lost to Petra Kvitova 6-2, 7-6(4); Yanina Wickmayer bt Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova 6-4, 6-4]. — AFP
