DEHRA DUN: The Shantikunj of Haridwar on Sunday launched an ambitious drive aiming at planting one crore saplings across the country to mark the centenary celebrations of Acharya Shriram Sharma founder of the Gayatri Parivar. Pilgrims visiting Shantikunj would be gifted saplings they would plant back home. The Shantikunj has also established a nursery for giving out saplings to the visitors. The nursery was inaugurated with the planting of eleven saplings of awla, shami and chandan by Shail Jiji, wife of the head of Shanti Kunj. She also gifted saplings to pilgrims from various States. The support of forest departments of various States had been sought to make the plantation drive a success. The aim of the drive is to nurture respect fro nature which had been plundered in the race for modernity and materialism. 1100 seeds of different species were also planted in the nursery of the Dev Sanskriti Vishwa Vidhyalaya.
