FUN TIME:A scene from the Thrissur Pooram Exhibition at Thekkinkadu Maidan. — Thrissur: The 48th edition of Thrissur Pooram exhibition at Thekkinkadu Maidan has been drawing crowds from far and wide. The All India Agricultural, Industrial, Educational and Cultural Exhibition, organised by the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady Devaswoms, is a regular feature ahead of Thrissur Pooram. In all, the exhibition has more than 150 stalls and 60 pavilions, including those of private and government institutions, according to the exhibition committee. Institutions such as Indian Space Research Organisation, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Southern Railways, Food Corporation of India, Coir Board, Kerala Agricultural University, Farm Information Bureau, Coir Corporation, Oushadhi and Kerala State Electricity Board are regular participants in the exhibition. The exhibition has a myriad collection of dress materials, kitchen accessories, electronic equipment, toys and food items. There are exclusive stalls for jewellery and glass bangles, a specialty of Rajasthan, suitable for various occasions. There is an assortment of saris, churidar materials and ready wears. For the young crowd there are wraparound Jaipuri skirts and the Bandiini churidar material and chikan-work kurtas. Pillow covers and bed-sheets from Jaipur, mouth-fresheners and digesters from Rajasthan, agarbatis and perfumes are all available in the exhibition. Over the period, the Pooram exhibition has become the pride of people of Thrissur. It has been managed by a committee comprising nominees of devaswoms, the Thrissur Corporation, the Cochin Devaswom Board, representatives of social organizations, Government officials and the public. The exhibition will conclude on May 24. Thrissur Pooram will be celebrated on May 12.
