ONGOLE: The prosecution on Monday gave up examination of 19 witnesses in the wake of three key witnesses turning hostile during hearing of the case relating to ‘conspiracy' behind the attempt on the life of the then Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha. The prosecution filed a memo during the resumed hearing by First Additional District Judge B. Siva Nagi Reddy, giving up examination of witnesses 15 to 33. An autorickshaw driver, A Maruthi, who was injured in the blast, and another person, M Adibabu, who witnessed the ambush by Naxalites, deposed before the judge. Summons The judge ordered issuance of summons to witnesses 34 to 47 to appear before him on April 25. The prosecution's case was that revolutionary writers P. Varavara Rao and G. Kalyan Rao along with Maoist leaders - Ganti Prasadam and Sagar, alias N Panduranga Reddy - had hatched a conspiracy to kill the police officer in 2005. While Mr. Varavara Rao did not appear in court, the other three accused were present.
