KOCHI: The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission held the first of the two public hearings here on Monday on a submission from the Kerala State Electricity Board to hike electricity tariffs to bridge, according to the Board, an income-expenditure gap of Rs.2,208 crore for the year 2011-12.
More than a 100 people, representing the Board's customers under various consumer categories, attended the meeting, held at the Ernakulam Guest House from 11 a.m.
The hearings had been put off because of the recent elections to the State Assembly.
Regulatory Commission Chairman K. J. Mathew and Commission members P. Parameswaran and Mathew George listened to the objections raised by consumers against the KSEB proposals. S. Venugopal, Member (Finance) of the Board explained its proposals.
President of Kerala HT and EHT Electricity Consumers' Association George Thomas, general convenor of Standing Council of Trade Unions K. N. Gopinath and convenor Alupuram Zakeer, president of Kerala State Small Industries Association Shaji Sebastian and representatives of residents' associations and domestic consumers expressed their views at the hearing.
