‘Report on Antrix-Devas deal ignored political lapse'

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Secretary's report on the Antrix-Devas multimedia satellite deal was a “command performance” that focussed merely on “procedural lapses” while conveniently forgetting to pinpoint the responsibility and ignoring the “political lapse,” the Bharatiya Janata Party said here on Monday.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the deal was signed in 2005, and while the process of cancellation began in 2010, it was not annulled till media pressure was built up.

The Cabinet Secretary's report, as reported in a section of the press, seems to have pointed out the “procedural lapses” while completely ignoring the fact that someone must be responsible politically, he said.

The fixing of responsibility was reportedly left to the Prime Minister. “Since the Space Department is headed by the Prime Minister, some lapse must have taken place at that level,” he said.
