KODAIKANAL: Teaching and non-teaching staff of Mother Teresa Women's University here staged a sit-in strike for the second day in front of the VC's office condemning the issue of relieving order to Registrar in-charge P.N. Premalatha and protesting, what they called, the “autocratic behaviour” of the Vice-Chancellor Aruna Sivakami Ananthakrishnan on the last day of her office on Tuesday. The VC also issued transfer orders to all the assistant registrars. But they did not accept the order. The staff demanded an immediate intervention of the government on the issue. They charged that the VC had asked Dr. Premalatha to accept her relieving order without giving any valid reason. The staff appealed to the Registrar in-charge not to accept the order and demanded a proper reason for relieving her from the office. In the meanwhile, the VC appointed A. Kalaimathi, Director in-charge, Directorate of Distance Education, Chennai, as Registrar in-charge. Even as key for the locked room of the Registrar was with Dr. Premalatha, the VC called the police to break open the room. But the police refused to oblige and advised her to contact revenue officials for a necessary action. A Revenue Inspector and VAO who visited the spot returned without doing anything. Later, the association members alleged that the lock of the room was broken by the VC and her supporters.
