Free sports camp from today

NAGAPATTINAM: The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) will conduct free sports camp this summer, here in the district. The sports camp is slated to commence from April 20 up to May 10 in order to train in track events, volleyball, squash, football, basketball, tennis, ball badminton, tennikoit, table tennis, boxing and yoga.

Students and non-students within 16 years of age are eligible for coaching in the aforementioned sports twice a day, in the mornings and evenings. The free coaching with certification for participants shall be provided along with a sports uniform and nutritional support of an egg a day.

Further, under the Learn to Swim programme for the year 2011-12, the SDAT has been conducting swimming training classes along with certification for school and college students and interested public since April 1. According to an administration release, public are invited to avail the training facility at Rs.300 per month. The pool may be utilised at an annual family fee(for two elders and two children) of Rs.2,500; or an annual fee of Rs.1,500 per person; or a half-yearly fee of Rs.1,000; or a quarterly fee of Rs.700 per person or alternatively at monthly fee of Rs.300 per person in order to have the individual registered for the pool facility.

Also, students and public are invited to avail the facility at Rs.20 per hour.

Interested persons may register their names at the sports office located at the collectorate premises, the release said.
