VISAKHAPATNAM: Former winner The Hindu warmed up with a nine-wicket win over Praja Shakti to enter the quarterfinals of the annual VJF-CMR inter-media cricket tournament being organised by the Visakha Sports Journalists Association at the Railway Stadium, here on Tuesday. After dismissing Praja Shakti for 47 with S. Satyanarayana and Aditya claiming three wickets each, The Hindu scored the required runs in 5.2 overs. S.K.A. Hussain made 23 (4x5), while Sumit Bhattcharjee scored 13 (4x3). Earlier, an all-round display by K.R.M. Varma (71 n.o., 4x6 and three for 32) helped Electronic Media Reporters XI defeat Saakshi TV by 34 runs. He was involved in an unbeaten 82-run stand with M. Reddy (27 n.o., 3x4) for the third-wicket after putting on 51 for the first-wicket with K. Hussain (11). Satish and Koti claimed two wickets each to supplement Varma's bowling in Saakshi TV's reply. The Joint Collector, Pola Bhaskar, inaugurated the day's matches. The scores: Praja Shakti 47 in 15 overs (S. Satyanarayana three for three, Aditya three for 19) lost to The Hindu 50 for one in 5.2 overs; Electronic Media Reporters XI 136 for two in 20 overs (K.R.M. Varma 71 n.o., M. Reddy 27 n.o.) bt Saakshi TV 102 in 17.5 overs (Varma three for 32).
