VISAKHAPATNAM: The retail sector in India is booming, as the economy is growing, offering great job opportunities for youngsters. But it is an exacting sector, an expert from the U.S. Robin Miller has opined. She was addressing students of the Integral Institute of Advanced Management (IIAM) here on Tuesday. She narrated her experiences in the retail chain, Stage, in the U.S. and how she rose from the lowest level to becoming the district manager of the company, managing 31 stores. Understanding his or her needs, the sales personnel should draw the customer and make special efforts to retain him or her. “The most difficult part is retaining the customer. He or she should visit your store again and again. It is often necessary to educate and guide the customer, when a number of products are available in the store,” she explained to the students. Ms. Miller said a manager in the retail field should have a great passion for selling and be prepared to work extra hours.
