KHAMMAM: Activists owing allegiance to the Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya and other frontal organisations of the CPI laid a siege to the Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) office in Burgumpadu on Tuesday in protest against the alleged irregularities in the disbursement of interest subsidy under the Pavala Vaddi scheme in the mandal. The protesters staged a demonstration in front of the IKP office denouncing the alleged discrepancies in the release of the interest subsidy to the self-help groups at various places in the mandal. They deplored that several SHGs were denied the interest subsidy due to the alleged failure of the officials concerned. They also tried to disrupt the mandal samakhya meeting at the IKP office in a bid to press for their demands. The meeting was reportedly postponed following the protests from the women activists. The IKP officials concerned denied the allegations of irregularities in disbursement of interest subsidy. They contended that the interest subsidy under the scheme was released through the on-line system in a transparent manner. However, the protesters insisted that the officials should conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter to unravel the facts and render justice to the SHGs. They have decided to defer their agitation following an assurance from the IKP Area Coordinator concerned to look into their allegations. CPI mandal secretary N. Satyanarayana, AP Mahila Samakhya mandal president Y. Shuba and division secretary Gousia Begum participated in the agitation.
