Thirty-two cases booked for violating code of conduct

Tirupur: The police have booked 32 cases, including two by Prohibition Enforcement Wing, against political parties/workers in the district for violation of the Model Code of Conduct set by Election Commission of India.

Bribing

Official sources told The Hindu that of the 32 cases, eight were registered under the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959, seven under Town Nuisances Act, 1889, and the rest for either bribing the voters with cash/gifts or for criminal intimidation. A maximum of seven cases were booked at Udumalpet police station followed by six at Tirupur South police station, five at Anupparpalayam police station, three at Madathuukulam police station, two at Tirupur Rural station, two by Prohibition Enforcement Wing, and one each at Tirupur North, Avinashi, Perumanallur, K.N.Palayam, Mangalam, Gudimangalam and Dhali police stations.

Four arrested

The Tirupur North police arrested four persons on Tuesday for allegedly setting up makeshift eateries/stalls on road sides and thereby obstructing free movement of vehicular traffic as well as pedestrians. Of them, G. Ravindran and J.M. Ali were arrested from Gandhi Nagar, K. Muruganathan and R. Vinoth.
