COIMBATORE: The micro and cottage entrepreneurs have sought equal distribution of power shortage across the State, including Chennai. S. Ravikumar, president of the Coimbatore and Tirupur District Micro and Cottage Enterprises Association, has said in a release that since 2007 the micro and cottage enterprises were facing load shedding. These units do not have power for nearly five hours a day and load shedding was implemented nearly four times a day without any prior notice. Chennai also should have at least two hours of load shedding a day so that the duration of power cut for the rest of the State could be reduced. According to J. James, President of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Entrepreneurs, nearly 30 per cent of the industries were selling their machinery as they had to repay the loans. They were unable to run the machinery because of the power cut. The loan burden on these units was increasing as power cut increased. Power cut should be extended to large-scale multi-national companies in the State too, he said. In a memorandum to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission recently, K. Kathirmathiyon, secretary of the Coimbatore Consumer Cause, has said that power cut in Coimbatore was erratic.
