THANJAVUR: The sapthasthanam festival concluded at Thiruvaiyaru on Thursday. Hundreds of people witnessed the convergence of seven glass palanquins carrying principal deities of respective temples from seven places at Thiruvaiyaru. The palanquins are from Ayyarappar temple at Thiruvaiyaru and various Siva temples at Thirupazhanam, Thirukandiyur, Thiruchotruthurai, Thirupanthuruthi, Thillaisthanam and Thiruvedikudi. As the palanquins were paraded near the car stand, the crowd witnessed the “Poochorithal" in which a doll offers flowers to the principal deities in the palanquins. After the Poochorithal, the palanquins left for their respective places.

Police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to disperse crowd as the palanquins converged at car stand. The crowd opposed to the flowers being showered by a group of youth who were perched on a tree top. After police intervention, an altercation between two groups was diverted. Sapthasthanam festival started on April 8 at Ayyarapapar temple at Thiruvaiyaru. Car festival was held on April 18. On Wednesday morning Ayyarappar and His consort Aram Valartha Nayagi started in a palanquin from Thiruvaiyaru and went to all the other six places-Thirupazhanam, Thiruchotruthurai, Thiruvedikudi, Thirukandiyur, Thirupunthuruthi and Thillaisthanam-from where the palanquins of the respective temples met and then came to Thiruvaiyaru on Thursday.
