Aravakurichi, Karur, Krishnarayapuram (reserved), Kulithalai are the four constituencies in the district Cases have been registered against Krishnarayapuram DMK candidate and sitting MLA P. Kamaraj KARUR: District election officials have slapped a total of 36 charges of poll code violations on various parties and individuals in Karur district. Elections were conducted to the four constituencies – Aravakurichi, Karur, Krishnarayapuram (reserved) and Kulithalai – in the district on April 13 and during that period the authorities arraigned political parties and personalities in 36 cases of poll code violations. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam tops the list with 13 charges against them, trailed by their archrivals Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with 10, and Congress with nine cases. Naam Tamizhar Iyakkam and Pattali Makkal Katchi are facing one charge each while two other cases have been filed against private individuals. Congress candidate for Karur constituency S.Jothimani faces two charges for organising meeting without permission and for printing and distributing handbills without the name of the printing house. Her party men and supporters numbering 150 have also been charged for violations. Similarly, cases have been registered against Krishnarayapuram DMK candidate and sitting MLA P. Kamaraj and his supporters for organising a meeting without permission. Importantly two cases have been filed against the DMK and one against the AIADMK for carrying cash meant for distribution to voters. Two cases have been filed against DMK and one against AIADMK for transporting gift articles meant for distribution to voters. Four cars have also been seized in connection with the cases. While 15 cases have been filed under the Karur Town police limits, under Velayuthampalayam police station limits three cases have been filed. Vangal, Kulithalai, Thennilai, K.Paramathi, Thogamalai, Lalapet and Vengamedu police stations have filed two cases each. Aravakurichi, Chinthamanipatti and Chinnadarapuram stations have filed one case each.
