PDS rice seized; three arrested

Coimbatore: In three raids on Thursday, K.G. Chavadi police seized 600 kg rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS).

According to the police, they seized three bags of rice weighing 180 kg when they were about to be smuggled by N. Britto (28) of Bharathi Nagar in Erode. The police seized the bags on Marichetti Main Road. The police also seized 150 kg rice near Velanthavam Road when it was about to be smuggled by D. Abraham (36) of Sundarapuram. In the third incident, also near Velanthavalam road, the police arrested C. Velmurugan (37) of Kumudipathy when he was about to smuggle 270 kg rice. The police arrested all the three, seized the vehicles used for transporting the smuggled rice as well.
