Special Correspondent

ARIYALUR: Students of various engineering colleges, including those from the Anna University played a crucial role in ensuring peaceful conduct of elections, said Collector T.K. Ponnusamy.

Addressing students at a function organised to mark the distribution of certificates here on Friday, he said that the district accounted for 80 sensitive booths. The Election Commission utilised the services of engineering students upon its decision to record the entire polling process at these booths using web cameras and lap tops.

Accordingly, a total of 140 students of various engineering colleges in the district underwent intensive training to record the proceedings and also for direct uploading in the website. The proceedings were also recorded in the compact disc.
