‘Any rumour may be verified from the Controller of Examinations' Chandigarh: In the wake of circulation of “fabricated SMSs” claiming leakage of question paper ahead of the University exams, Panjab University on Friday advised students against missing the examinations. “A dangerous trend has been noticed by Panjab University authorities, fabricated SMSs are circulated stating that due to a leaked question paper, the exam has been postponed,” an official release said here. The University controller of examinations said, “when the SMS circulated by mischievous elements is taken up by panicked students, it soon appears genuine. This is very unfortunate” Students either stop studying for the paper and also, in many instances, do not even appear for it, leading to unnecessary complications later, the release said adding the matter also creates hindrances in smooth conduct of the examinations as, coincidentally, or because of a careful perusal of the trend, one or some of the so-called leaked questions may actually come in the examination. In that case, there will be unnecessary controversies where none should exist, he said. Panjab University appealed to all concerned to be aware of this trend noticed recently. “Any hint of a rumour may be verified immediately from the office of the Controller of Examinations. In the event of any postponement, the University will itself post the same on its website.” - PTI
