More dyeing units demolished in Erode
S. Ramesh
ERODE: Encouraged by the growing support from the farming community and the general public in the district, the district administration continued to demolish unauthorised dyeing units for the second consecutive day on Saturday.
Nearly 30 such units were demolished in different parts of the district on Friday and Saturday.
In raids carried out in the district on Saturday, officials identified a number of unauthorised units functioning under makeshift structures letting out huge amount of untreated, toxic effluents into Cauvery and Bhavani Rivers.
In many units, officials found huge amount of toxic substance stored in plastic water tanks and cans.
A majority of these units were earlier functioning in Tirupur, where a number of textile processing units had to be shut down following a Madras High Court order, a senior official said.
