The injured barn owl at the Tambaram railway station on Saturday.
TAMBARAM: A Barn owl that was injured and struggling at the Passenger Reservation Centre at Tambaram railway station on Saturday morning was rescued and handed over to the Forest Department.
Railway Protection Force personnel said they noticed the barn owl in a corner of the reservation centre around 10 a.m. It was injured on its left wing.
It is suspected that the injury was sustained after the owl came into contact with the ceiling fan's blades.
Two RPF men managed to catch the bird and brought it to the RPF station.
They then contacted the Forest Department and the staff from Velachery reached the police station and took the bird away.
The bird would be nursed for its injuries, the department staff added.
A number of wooded habitations are perfect environs for many species of these birds, including the horned owl at Nanmangalam Reserve Forest.
