Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A youth was allegedly murdered and his body dumped in a lake in Porur on Friday night. The body was retrieved by Fire and Rescue Services personnel early on Saturday. Police have arrested two persons on charges of kidnap and murder.

According to police sources, K. Sankar (26) and N. Saravanan alias Nithyaraj (24) of Balaji Nagar went to meet their friend Vinod Kumar (20), a painter of Mathura Nagar, who was working at a construction site in Jai Nagar.

A heated argument ensued between them and in the melee that followed Vinod Kumar was assaulted and forced into a vehicle. He was taken to the banks of a lake in Porur where Sankar and Saravanan allegedly hit him on the head with a stone. The victim died on the spot.

The accused dumped the body in the lake near Jai Vinayagar Temple and escaped. On receiving information, the police alerted Fire and Rescue Services personnel, who launched a search operation and retrieved the body.

A special team comprising Inspector C. Durairaj and head constable (Intelligence) B. Darwin arrested Sankar and Saravanan. The accused were produced in a court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added.
