150 cases were registered last year in Shimoga ‘Sexual harassment prevention committees have become inactive' Shimoga: Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women's Commission Manjula has expressed concern over the increasing number of cases related to missing of young women. “It is disturbing to note that the incidents of missing of college-going women are being reported in regular frequency. The Karnataka State Women Commission has planned to organise awareness programmes on the campuses of education institutions in this regard,” she told presspersons here on Saturday. In Shimoga district alone, 150 cases related to missing of young women were registered last year. The Department of Women and Child Welfare planned to conduct a joint survey with the Women's Study Centre of the University of Mysore on missing young women. She suspected that an organised racket in trafficking young women was active in the State, she said. Sexual harassment prevention committees had become inactive in most of the districts. Cases of domestic violence against women in rural areas had increased. It had been planned to strengthen the Santwana kendras to address these problems, she said. The number of complaints registered with the commission had increased. A proposal had been submitted to the government to provide additional staff to the commission to redress the grievances at the earliest, she said.
