Special Correspondent
THANJAVUR: Books have been instrumental in bringing in change in society, said S.N.M.Ubayathullah, State Commercial Taxes Minister, here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the book exhibition organised by Periyar Self-Respect Movement Propaganda Organisation in connection with the World Book Day celebration here, he said writers strived to make the world a better place to live in. Leaders such as Periyar, Annadurai, K.Veeramani, Dravidar Kazhagam president and Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi figured in that list. Their thoughts and books were reformist in nature, thereby increasing the knowledge base of the readers. Books on thoughts of Periyar, ‘Vazhviyal Sindanaigal' written by K.Veeramani, books of Annadurai and MKarunanidhi, the Tamil translation of a book written by former Prime Minister of India V.P.Singh, are on display at the exhibition.
