COIMBATORE: Brindavan Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School is conducting a 20-day summer camp on Samacheer Kalvi on the school premises here.

S. Somasundaram, Correspondent and Secretary, said students in primary school would be taught the basics of English and math.

“This will not be a classroom kind of teaching. The children will be taught a list of words with which their textbooks are written. Once they become familiar with the words, they will be asked to build sentences. In the process, they gain the confidence to handle the books.”

Fun-filled

The word-building and sentence-formation exercises are done using computers. The children get to have it in a fun-filled way. They will have to follow it up with exercises, which have been developed using software.

He said the words and exercises were based on the new textbooks the State Government had come up with under the Samacheer Kalvi syllabus.

As part of the summer camp, the school teachers will also impart public speaking skills, provide book reading techniques to kindle their interest in books and also exercises in money/currency. A few guest lecturers will also handle classes.

“The whole idea is to help the children familiarise themselves with the new syllabus and enjoy learning,” he explained.

The school planned to follow the summer camp with similar short-duration programmes during the quarterly and half-yearly holidays, he added.
