India's growing economy promises bright future for young graduates: V-C

Namakkal: Vice-Chancellor of Anna University of Technology (Coimbatore) K. Karunakaran has said that the growing Indian economy has promised a brighter future for young graduates.

He was addressing at the 8 {+t} {+h} graduation day of Muthayammal Engineering College in Rasipuram on Saturday.

Noting that the country stands ninth largest in the world in the automobile sector and the fourth – only next to Japan, South Korea and Thailand – in export of automobiles, the Vice Chancellor said that over the recent years India has started emerging as self-sufficient in various fields and many Indian automobile manufacturers have spread their operations globally, he said and added that this directly reflects on the opportunities available for the young graduates.

According to him the country's aviation industry has also shown tremendous growth in the last three years.

Pointing out at the Civil Aviation Ministry's that estimates the number of passengers who flew from and to India at 2.98 crore in the year 2010, Mr. Karunakaran said that this was 30 per cent more than what it was in the year 2007.

Mr. Karunakaran said that private airlines account for 75 per cent of this mode of commutation and added that more opportunities in the aviation industry is likely to make way for 69 more foreign airlines from 49 countries. On the banking sector, he said that graduates specialising in finance have a promising future as this sector is expected to grow in leaps and bounds in the near future with mergers and acquisitions that are picking up pace. Opportunities in this sector would be created with the entry of more foreign banks that would attract more capital, technology and management skills that would lead to higher competition towards greater efficiency, he added.

Mr. Karunakaran also dwelt in detail on the opportunities for young engineering graduates in the construction, communication and allied industries. He said that mobile phone manufacturing that has been increasing at 28.3 per cent annually and recruitment of nearly 1.14 lakh engineers by the top five players from April to December 2010 in the IT industry stand testimony for opportunities for young graduates.

The Vice Chancellor also distributed degree certificates to 330 students of the college. Earlier, Chairman of Muthayammal Educational Trust and Research Foundation R. Kandasamy presided over the function and delivered the special address. Secretary and Managing Trustee K. Gunasekaran and College Principal M. Madheswaran also spoke.
